I think Hitler by then never expected tat e Third Reich army to be
defeated so easily
The biggest mistake he made was invading Russia. He sent ten
complete armies into Russia, which were all beaten back.
I've read another book on alternate history. One historian
claims (with a great deal of justification) that Hitler should have
simply given Rommel one Panzer army, invaded Malta, and concentrate
on North Africa. Once the Suez Canal and Gibraltar were both
captured, he could drive on to the Middle East.
Which is kinda sensible, when you think about it. The Afrika
Korps was exactly what it sounded like: a corps. Although they were
outnumbered, they came within 50km of Alexandria before being
beaten back.
If Rommel had one complete Panzer Army..... yikes.
