I think most of us lead such hectic lives that we no longer
practice any winding down ritual before bed. Most of the
time, we plonk ourselves in bed way past the proper bedtime or
worse, we fall asleep in front of the TV / PC, and then drag
ourselves into bed!
I remember being a primary school kid (waaaah! Like
dinosaur years ago like that!) and everyday, by a certain time,
I'll be in bed, doing a bit of reading until I feel sleepy, then
it's lights off and bedtime! Mom would come by to make sure
that it's lights off for brother and me by a certain time every
night.
It seems healthier that way. You have some sort of routine
/ ritual where your body associates with winding down after a day
of frantic activity, and you gradually ease into Sleep mode.
However, I was shocked to realise that too many parents don't even
bother to impose strict bedtimes for their young children! I
lived with a family once where the children would insist on
monkeying around until 11:30pm or midnight!! There didn't
seem to be any discipline in that household!
I'm trying to revert back to a healthier lifestyle, by
establishing a routine before sleep. That means washing face,
brushing teeth - read in bed - sleep. No more watching TV or
being in front of the PC until I fall asleep.
I'm just wondering about the pre-bedtime activities of other
folks. Do you have a sort of daily routine?
Erm... sorry ah, lup sup, hum sup stuff we don't want to
know!
