hmm...my dive centre said apexs are pretty ex....asked me to go for scubapro or mares.

depending on the range, they are not much more expensive ... apeks are cheaper actually, if you know where to buy them ....

mares is good for the recreational diver, effortless breathing, cool design etc, but it's not for the more technical diver ... in some models the airflow is not even adjustable ... if you have more money to spend, go for one of the better scubapro models ....

given that this stuff is suppose to keep you alive underwater....I wouldn't mind the extra expense for greater reliability and performance....scubapro regs are pretty good too. never tried mares.

don't get me wrong ... mares is a good choice ... a real glitzy choice ..... just that I dive a different configuration that's all ... I dive a halcyon original pioneer wing with steel backplate and long hose configuration .... if I were using a normal type BC, I'd much rather suck air from a mares reg ... as for computer, whatever you do, stay away from the suuntos .... uwatec is great ... I personally uses an old oceanic air only dive com, and that functions more as a depth gauge for me than anything else ...

how often ? .. hell, it used to be every other weekend for me ... heh .... but I just got back from overseas, and now it's time to hit the ocean again .... I service my regs at least once a year, I'd bring it to divemasters pratama, the distributor for apeks, for servicing, if you don't mind the hassle you can buy the service kit and DIY .... sometimes it's a lot more frequent, there's this notorious dive resort at a popular malaysian east coast spot that almost NEVER clean their compressor generators, and the first stage filter often gets clogged solid black from a single tank... frequent divers should know which place I'm talking about .... the season has just started, if you guys are interested I'm cobbling together groups for perhantian, redang, aur and maybe lombok in the coming months .... give me a PM ... ;)

I use Mares Abyss.

And like Fatum, I'm using Halcyon Backplate system.

Anyway, why steer awway from Suuntos?

I had a very bad experience with the suunto mosquito .... my oceanic dive com was a replacement for that ......

and woah ! ... abyss ! ... now that's one classy reg ...

the earlier generations of uwatec dive coms had notoriously unfriendly user interfaces ... I haven't been checking out their stuff, not sure if things have improved ....

but I usually leave my dive com in guage mode anyways .... so it doesn't really matter ...

Air gushes into your mouth, like u press the purge all the time..

But it only happens if u dun keep the pressure in the mouth.. not sure if u get what i mean.

nah, u can control it..

i can come out from a 40 mins dive with almost 100 bars left, but max depth was only abt 20m?
