melbourne can be a lot of things, what do you want it to be for you? IT is fairly cultural, so take the time while you are there to enjoy the scene. Also, it has plenty to offer in terms of food and entertainment, just don't get too caught up with it, remember what you are in melbourne for. Will you be staying near campus? Cars are cheap, but the traffic is almost as bad as Sg...

lotsa club 30 aunties and uncles are based in Melbourne lol ...

some post some don't and some just ... lurk around lol.

But from personal experience, it's a wonderful city. vibrant, culturally diverse and pretty safe (as long as you're sensible).

most importantly, food there is pretty decent too and ps. eat me a souvlaki kthxbye Laughing

you are NOT young anymore..

go there.. remember.. being away in a foreign land is an education in itself, which is very very different from the "education" you are going there to obtain...

go there with an open mind which is filtered... there are many new ideas, views and all there... go live like the locals, learn about the culture there... that's the most important bits which is different from what you will get here at home..

expand your horizons and your views of the world, learn how they live, how they are.. and remember the lessons learnt when you get back, if you come back...

this should be a life-altering experience.. embrace it.. do not fight it...

and if you can and can afford to, go on trips to see the continent.. make friends, take hugeass road trips... do not forget to look up into the sky at night when you are out there with just wilderness around you... lie back and take in the universe... contemplate..

in other words, do more than go there and study...

i'm not talking about paper qualifications..

i'm talking about being in another country, in another culture and learning from it..

share, be part of it.. and you will grow..

i saw a lot of foreign students who do not do anything other than study or keep within a little clique of their countrymen..

they have squandered a chance few get to immerse themselves in another culture...

i had a few roommates who were australian and they shared with me what it was like to be a local... i went on camping trips, a hippy festival, huge rock concerts, drinks, impromptu road trips, visited their hometown farms, went on huge trips...

it broadens your horizons... gives you a view much more than those narrow-minded idiots infesting speakers' corner...

like i wrote.. it is a life-altering experience..

go there.. make friends with the local people.. and see a whole new world open up to you Smile

p.s. that kind of education is not paper qualifications.. it is something which makes you grow more than paper qualifications can Smile

btw.. if you're there next year around F1GP time, i'll go visit you and we can share a souvlaki or three Laughing
