I think by raising the ERP prices the Goverment is not going to resolv the CTE traffic jam issue.

1) LTA can always think "out-of-the-box" by increasing the no. of lanes from the opposite direction to ease the traffic woes.

they had a good idea initially to control the total number of cars. but then they screwed it up by not controlling it well.

and i guess the main thing is they need to sole the fact that pple need to travel across the island jsut to get off and to work Rolling Eyes

But seriously, I don't think whatever they do will ease the traffic jams around CTE. CTE leads to a lot of other expressways, and in particular, is a very popular route to TTSH.

Not to mention the number of industrial parks there and schools.

its the developement of Sembawang, part Woodlands, Punggol, Sengkang and part Hougang that leads to the traffic jams on CTE today.

cos the other alternatives are Upper Serangoon (for NE side) and Thomson, and these are worse roads with twists and turns

those commuting from eastern or western sides have 2 4-lanes expressways to serve them.

CTE only 3 lanes for most of the way

Main reason for the jam at CTE and also at other expressway: Too many entrance and exits along the expressway and they are design too close to each other.

This method tried in other country liao.
Not very good, because ppl then buy another car.
One with odd number, the other with even number.
Singaporean although they complain alot, have enough money to buy two cars. Even when Singapore has the highest markup for cars in the world. This not counting the COE somemore.

China now try this method, lets see how it works there.

So this thread goes to show that there really isnt anyone who can come up with a better idea, a feasible one, a complain-free one. Everyone only know how to kpkb the government becos they are just so used to doing that these days.

Maybe they could implement a road system which allows "flexible lanes". For example in Britain, during morning peak, expressways (without central divider) will open up more lanes towards the city and vice-versa during evening peak. The drivers follow LED arrows directly above each lane ( like the ones in CTE tunnels)

The problem is that it will cost too much to reconfigure CTE. But if the govt is willing to fork out the $$, i think the problem will improve greatly. Another problem is that a change in highway code must be made to prevent accidents from happening. But i cant see this idea happening in S'pore in the near future.
