There is a block of low level 2 storey HDB flats across the road
from where I live. One of the families living on a ground floor
unit colonised the plot of grass behind their unit , along the
road, making it into their own garden - they plant their own plants
, flowers, even set up a little umbrella and plastic chairs and
shed. It's very nice.
Every national day they'd even string lights and flags and decorate
the garden! The decorations are up already 
Saw the twinkling lights the other night.
