The way I see it, there's too much misguided paternalism at work
at here. They feel that they know what's best for Singapore and
impose it with a heavy hand... without realising that sometimes
allowing something to nurture is to allow it to run with a minimum
of interference.
It's just like how they feel that creativity and an entrepreneurial
spirit can be nurtured through lessons in the classroom... totally
laughable. And they couldn't even do it right - my batch was the
test batch for Project Work in JC, and I remember my teacher kept
shooting down proposal after proposal that my group submitted on
the basis that they were 'too unconventional', 'too far out of the
box', 'just keep it basic' and what have you...
Needless to say, during the presentation when we were asked for our
opinions on Project Work, I blasted it totally: 'What's the point
of nurturing creativity in this way if we're NOT ALLOWED TO THINK
CREATIVELY?!?!?!'
