elindra SG Hmm my fav is the frangipani pic too Ok back to your insect porn Stop waving your rainbow flag Anyway they are good pics AV
honeymouse SG Sorry av to hijack your site... don't want to start a new thread just for one photo. Anyway, this photo was taken by my hubby a few years ago.... enjoy!
Rhonda SG I'm of the same opinion, MooKu! That photo resembles a wounded starfish that's found itself with one leg wedged amidst the rocks and the situation seems hopeless... It's just a very 'deep' photo, open to interpretation. But that was the image it evoked in me...
Rhonda SG The fiery words aren't exactly becoming of someone who has just taken some really 'tender' photos of delicate flowers! Love the juxtaposition!
Rhonda SG Yeah, working evening, so going to Richmond market before work, as usual. Not working on Sunday, so bringing Bear's sis to eat dimsum in Ringwood, where you brought us. Pai seh, I really love the dimsum there and have been craving for it! We talk in Chatterbox, can? Don't wanna hijack av's thread!
av98m SG That's a lovely picture! Great colors and detail Will look even nicer if taken on an overcast day, but we can't expect perfect conditions all the time can we
av98m SG More pics!! And just to debunk the bullshit that you need to spend tons of $$$ to get decent macros, these were all taken with a small compact digicam, fuji f31d($500+) in macro mode, handheld. Any small compact with a macro mode(most of the models today have it) can take this kind of pics And here's a black & white pic, for the pinky bear. It's a closeup of part of a tree. Fungi These 2 pics were processed in duotone, inspired by Lenswork This is a standard black and white.
Rhonda SG Wow! A few of your prints look really professional! Hmm... when I return, I need to ask you or kopi to teach me all over again, stuff about the aperture and shutter speed, aka the Manual mode on my digicam. Sadly, I can't take the kind of photos I want with it although I know it is capable of what I want it to do. Maybe I shall ask you cause I've asked kopi a hundred times liao and he'll probably think I'm some super dodo.
av98m SG Rhonda Its actually not rocket science. Here's what you do: Set camera to macro Disable flash Everything else leave it at full auto Go out early in the morning before the harsh sunlight and wind shows up. Or early evening when the light is softer. Reminder: avoid harsh sunlight and wind. Point your camera and shoot!! Easy!! P.s. this advise only applicable for small point and shoots. DSLRs are a whole different kettle of fish and require more fiddling with.
Rhonda SG 'M' stands for 'Macro'?? Always thought it stood for "Manual"! Yeah, I follow your advice re. avoiding harsh sunlight. Thanks! Think I need to fiddle with my digicam more. I have trouble taking shots where the areas I wanna blur, don't end up blurred!!
av98m SG err...usually M will stand for manual, macro mode is usually denoted by a flower or something...........read your user's manual lah As for the 'blur'.......errr I think you referring to bokeh? Not easy to do with compacts leh, because of their design. They have lots of depth of field, which is great for macros but not when you want only one subject in focus while blurring out the background. the more expensive DSLRs do the blurring better, but have problems with getting enough depth of field when you really need lots of it, so its how you want to balance the tradeoffs.
