the news report is not very accurate. i think with the upcoming Valentine's Day, the news report is using the angle of 'love' to interpret the couple's embrace as affection.

While it's possible to know if they are indeed male or female by pelvic-bone analysis, it's almost impossible to know under what circumstances they died, or if they even died together, or if they even knew each other.

For example, they could have been strangers captured by a tribe for their rituals. They could've been strangled separately and then buried together to honour some spirits.

But that doesn't sound too romantic for Feb 14, does it???

In a Valentine's Day gift to the country, scientists said they are determined to remove and preserve together the remains of a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, their arms still wrapped around each other in an enduring embrace.

Instead of removing the bones one-by-one for reassembly later, archaeologists plan to scoop up the entire section of earth where the couple was buried, they told Reuters.
