I thought I'd start the month by reading this book "Minus Nine to One - The Diary of an Honest Mum" by Jools Oliver (Jamie Oliver's wife). It's really down-to-earth & a very funny read!

I've just read a book that was listed in the 2006 Books Alive Great Read Guide.

This has been written by one of my favourite authors & is her 10th book.

Cathy Kelly never fails to intrigue me with her stories... I feel like reading on & on, never wanting to put the book down (dangerous on a weekend when I should be doing housework instead!!). Mr. Green

She writes beautifully, and realistically - much of what the characters face, are what normal people would face too, stuff like breakups followed by low self-esteem, the joy of mother-daughter relationships & husband-wife relationships.

There are lessons for each of the characters to learn, in trying to let go of the past & moving on to live a good life in the present/future.

I can't wait for her next book! I suspect it will be out next year in March Wink

Actually I've already thought of one possible book - Madness Explained by Richard Bentall. I'm very captivated by the title, which seems to purport to explain the irrational.

Or else, I might just get Atonement by Ian McEwan. I've been wanting to get that for some time.

Or you might want to recommend something else. I'm interested in novels, popular science and history.

High Fidelity by Nick HOrnby

Enjoyed this book... I like the relentlessly honest way its written... Rob, the guy in the story is so hopelessly lost in the ways of humankind and relationships.

DISTURBING. I could not put down the book.

This book has been made into a movie starring John Cusack and Jack Black. Although the setting's been changed into Chicago, the movie is still quite good and funny.

Hey, I read High Fidelity too, quite a while back! Wink Wish the book came with a CD of the music mentioned in the book though.

The DVD of the movie version starring John Cusack (*swoooooon!!) was recently spotted in the shops for under A$13 too! Wink

I'm not reading these books... yet, but just thought I'd recommend them for those who just might be interested! Wink

If you've spent time looking up at the sky and being fascinated by the shapes the clouds seem to take on, you'll love this quaint li'l book! In it, find facts about clouds, the different names of different clouds (we learnt them in Geography in Sec 2, anyone remembers? Twisted Evil ) and interesting little anecdotes.

Off-hand, I can only remember Cumulo-Nimbus, Stratus and Cirrus clouds. And since I'm a natural dreamer who loves to gaze at the sky, clouds preferred, thank you, I think I'll read this soon! Mr. Green

This is another interesting book, again on the weather, but this time, focusing on freaky but interesting real-life incidents. Would make for an amusing read, methinks! Wink
