some of you think Perth is BAD? Wait til you come to Canberra .
Perth seems more fun than Frickin Canberra. You wonder how all
those redneck bogans can live in canberra with its freakishly
expensive rent and outrageous grocery prices - STILL HAVE NO FOUND
A DOZEN OF EGGS costing less than 3 bucks!
and bloody bananas
cost 16 bucks per kg now [/b]
A colleague spoke fondly of the Bak Chor Mee at the Singapore
Chomp Chomp and when pestered for directions, only managed a
"somewhere near Chinatown" and well, FOUR TIMES I've walked the
entire Chinatown but have yet to find it so thanks for the specific
directions! TA!
I da bao from Pacific Seafood very frequently! The folks there
kinda know me liao! I'm a creature of habit too so when they see
me, they sorta know what I'm going to order liao!

There's now a new Shanghai restaurant opposite Bread Top
(apparently a franchise of our Singapore Bread Talk!) in Victoria
Street - Xiao Ting Restaurant. THeir guo tie is really great! So's
their spicy sauce noodles!
They have a lot of
dishes on offer that's worth trying.
And then there's Gigi Japanese Restaurant in town where their
whatever-don's are good! And their Gyozas are humungous and very
tasty too!
I saw long queues one Sunday morning outside that Shark's Fin
restaurant you recommended. Will go try it someday!
The Asian grocery stores in Victoria St carry this Malaysian
couple's homemade nyonya kuehs which include ang ku kueh, yam cake
and chai tow kuay (dark sauce version). And I guzzled a lot of dao
huey chui (soya bean milk) in my first few weeks here when I
developed a sudden craving for it.
I'm happy and snug as a beaver here! I have a lovely home to return
to, I'm busy at work but not having to go through all those
constant complaints and nagging and sarcastic remarks make a huge
difference! And on top of that, I can start to save for my plans!
It's not all rosey here but it's mostly lovely so I can take the
bad along with the good.
I had a fun time working out the Salary Packaging and
Superannuation stuff but now, I understand them fully.
I've filled out my tax
form too since this time round, it's extremely clear-cut and
straightforward for me. The tax rates here are high, but at the end
of the day, I keep one eye closed and I still get more than I did
back home, so fair enough!
SL and I were just saying the other day that it's a great,
encouraging sign that the govt is attempting to get people who are
receiving handouts to get to work at least three days a week. At
least, something's being done, slowly but surely.
I love to read the local papers. At first, I was put off by their
prices, but am used to it now. I only buy the papers on weekends -
The Age on Saturdays, and The Age, The Australian, and The Herald
on Sundays. I love the local TV current affairs and social issues
programs like the news, Today Tonight, You are What You Eat, etc.
So informative!
I haven't done much exploring of Melbourne outside the town and the
Richmond area because I'm still settling down but I'm taking it
slow and easy cause afterall, it's only Week 6!
