Rhonda SG This is so disturbing! It's so sad that now, our region is notorious, just because of a few unethical idiots. Some of us are going to have to work that much harder to earn credibility and trust, y'know!
Rhonda SG The School Board has a really really tough decision to make. Imagine this though - would they want anyone to tarnish the name of Harvard? Would they want a dishonest cheat to graduate from their prestigious University and henceforth become known as "THE Harvard grad who plagiarised"? I'm sure their alumni would have lots to say on this issue too.
Fatum SG getting into harvard is not just about high SAT scores .... it's about ECA's too ... and if part of her ECA's was writing for the high school paper ... then it's cheating and dishonesty, and she got her place in harvard through mis-representation, no ? ... somehow I'm not sorry for her ... perhaps it's because I've seen too many students with questionable academic ethics in the U ....
Rhonda SG Well, why should we feel sorry for someone who stole others' ideas and works and tried to pass it off as her own? She enjoyed her embellishments but it's not entirely her hard work. It's time for her to face the music now. There's no excuse for plagiarism. Give credit where it's due!
av98m SG Anyway she's damned lucky the author she plagarised is a much nicer person than she is. She has already told the press she has no intention to sue.
Rhonda SG Oh yeah... McCafferty. She responded in a very nice manner. I'm sure she has quite a few people interested in her works now. I'm one of them.
Fatum SG I felt curiously ashamed because of it sometimes ... some of the chaps I spoke to told me how high school results can be easily faked for a price, as well as ESL scores ... (ESL not neccessary for Singapore students though) ..... and some of them got into grad school and post grad jobs with sterling CVs ... except that they are faked ... and they'll happily tell you so .... I've talked to a few of these chaps about these issues ... their "defense" is that they came from gigantic societies of around a billion people each ... life is a lot more darwainian, and intensely competitive ... its just a way to get ahead ... to survive .... a legitimate defense ? ... no comments ... but this kind of ethics is definitely something i won't teach to little fatums ....
Rhonda SG Fatum, av, if they don't see what's wrong about the wrong that they've committed, it's almost an "all hope's lost" situation. I mean, if there's at least some guilt, it at least shows that they have a conscience!
