Rhonda SG Lately, I've seen appalling food hygiene in a few restaurants. I find it extremely disturbing since you'd think everyone would know better cause of the education we've had! Firstly, the episode where I was served Pink Guava juice gone off, and it was at room temperature too. MOS Burger should know better than to keep their fruit juices for hours in a dispenser that either needed repairs to the cooling mechanism or the temperature needed to be tweaked. Secondly, a hawker grabbed his greasy towel used for wiping his work surfaces to clean the gravy off my container of food before passing it to me! BLEAH!! Thirdly, at KFC, the female cashier grabbed a dirty-looking cloth that she had just used to wipe the table and soak up spilled drinks to clean all over the cover of my container of drink! I tried to dismiss it and walk away but couldn't stand the thought and walked back to ask for a new cover and straw. I thought that everyone should have an inkling of basic food hygiene? If not, shouldn't these food establishments make sure that their staff undergo some form of basic training that covers simple food hygiene issues before allowing them to serve food? If good food hygiene isn't practiced, it can lead to customers falling ill after consuming the food and/or drinks. We simply cannot afford to be lax in this matter. Have you made any observations regarding this issue lately? What are your thoughts? Should more be done to improve the standard of food hygiene here?
av98m SG Well the staff could be given better training, and also better pay and working conditions. Seriously for their kind of shit pay I'd probably give the same kind of service. Even our ministers and mps will become corrupt if we ever stop paying them their multi-million dollar salaries mah. Perhaps send to whole lot to the Robinson's Institute? (that's their in-house training centre) You can train people till the cows come home, but if they have bad working conditions and lousy pay the end result will still be the same.
Rhonda SG Even if they are poorly paid and overworked, it doesn't mean that the staff can take liberties to dirty the utensils and serve food / drinks gone bad and cause the customers to fall ill. It doesn't justify that at all! This can be an ethical issue, I guess. But no one, no matter what circumstances they're under, should seek to cause someone else to suffer from food poisoning. It just isn't right to harm someone else intentionally, no matter what the reason may be.
Rhonda SG Erm... this in a thread on food hygiene... YOu're not planning on eating the notes for your dietary fibre, are you?
av98m SG Tell that to our ministers and mps who threaten corruption if they are not paid multi-million dollar salaries, bonuses and pensions. If we cannot expect ethical behaviour from them, then how can we expect others to follow? (Yes, I'm going to flog this dead horse until there is not even a trace of DNA left) But seriously, I've learnt to avoid a few really bad outlets, like the Mos Burger at Westmall. Horrendous service. And they're so bloody slow, they can't even be called fast food anymore. My neighbourhood zhi char stall is faster.
Fatum SG *thinks back to my past waitering jobs ........ *cringes .... *decides not to tell Rhonda .... else she'll forswear resturants forever ......
Rhonda SG Actually, here's the #1 Food Hygiene rule that we all flout... ... washing hands before eating. Most of us just sit down and start tucking in to our food. I'm guilty of it too! I guess it was only in kindergarten when the lao shi's made us queue up at the sink before we could eat that we all washed our hands before eating.
Rhonda SG Y'know, in general, we associate the Japanese with good service and good quality products. However, increasingly so, MOS Burger fails to upkeep that. I wonder why... did they have some change in management? When they had their first few restaurants, the standards were good.
Don© SG Hmm, maybe you can bring this up on the next election? But wait.. we'll probably die of food poisoning by then.
Fatum SG everything degenerates from the source ... well Rhonda ... let's just say that AV's mentality is a good one to have when it comes to resturants and services .... only idiots would be nasty to someone who handles one's food eh ? ... *I mean away from the source ...
Don© SG MOS burger is probably staffed by locals right up to the management level. On a note, i worked in a resturant before.. you don't wanna know how food is prepared.
MooKu SG When I used to eat at Sakae Sushi, I always had to ask for the utensils to be replaced (until I'm satisfied ) because they are always dirty. I even found dried food remnants on the spoon once. I've been looking around for a chopstick case so I can bring my own chopsticks out.
elindra SG You really don't want to know what they do to the food of nasty unreasonable customers. >.< I was in F&B for a while when I was a teenager >.<
oldbreadstinks SG i always wash my hands if i can help it, unless i'm eating at the hawker center ($0.10 per entry )
