elindra SG Fresh sliced fried potatoes with herbs taste really fantastic! Actually it's not so hard to believe what Oliver said because just look at the junk food kids eat these days
Rhonda SG Just watched my very first show of Jamie's School Dinners and wow, a month after changing a school's lunch menu, the school teachers report that the kids concentrate better at school and they no longer need to use the asthma inhaler! The chemicals in all the junk foods the schools used to serve caused THAT much health problems in the kids! It was funny trying to get the kids to eat the revamped menu though. In the first few weeks, most of the kids threw their lunch away but gradually, they slowly got used to it. The kids were all shocked when Jamie showed them how chicken nuggets were made. "Mechanised chicken" was made by throwing chicken carcasses minus the head and feet, into a food processor and blended, then the fatty skin was thrown and blended too. And then Jamie tells the kids, "This is how your chicken nuggets are made!" and they all went "Eeeew!".

SydneyLibrarian SG On a different note, Jamie Oliver's opening one of his exclusive 'Fifteen' restaurants in Melbourne soon! Can't wait to go visit!
sacredspirits SG he is very popular here... actually somehow influenced politicians to do something about the pathetic school dinners in schools here.... too much junk food....
the Bear SG i wonder.. can something as mundane as processed sausages be made into something better.. healthier?
Rhonda SG Overweight Kids : Schools take Action Maybe, Jamie inspired this movement in the US? Certainly heartening to read!
Rhonda SG It certainly can be! But that would mean that the manufacturers would have to use quality ingredients instead of all manner of junk as 'fillers' and the higher cost will eventually be passed on to the consumer. If there's a steady demand for 'healthier' sausages, I'm sure manufacturers won't hesitate to change things. But only if there's a steady demand that translates into viable profits ...
av98m SG Finally caught an episode of this show and even I was appalled at the crap being served at school cafeterias in the UK. I may be a glutton, but I usually try to minimise my exposure to processed foods.
Rhonda SG I watched an episode where the teachers of one school claims that after three months of implementing the new diet, they no longer have kids who needed to use the inhalers anymore! They see more energetic kids with less respiratory problems! Processed foods should be minimised in our diet. But that can be tough in this day and age of convenience foods and fast foods.
choco B SG I'm not sure if I'll be able to give up bratwurst Surely something so full of tasty goodness can't be that bad
