there are farms like that in singapore. Go to this farm called firefly farm, somewhere in the lim chu kang area. quite well known for supplying proper organically grown vegetables.

i've hated veges when i was young and the reason was the leafy ones stuck on the roof of my mouth and i hated that!

but now i like most vegetables stir fired in oyster sauce(or vegetarian oyster sauce, no diff) and i LOVE broccoli and i used to totally dislike most shellfish, now i dare eat mussels and oysters. NO HUM THO!!!

Come to think of it, the Brits often come up with interesting concepts for cooking shows.

They have the Two Fat Ladies, where yup, you literally get two fat ladies travelling around sometimes on their motorbikes, cooking classic (and sometimes very fatty) traditional English food.

Then, there was Cooking with Nancy, where the protagonist was this flambouyant ex-Singaporean lady with flaming red hair and bold glass frames who married an African guy and opened her own restaurant in UK.

Jamie Oliver, Ainsley, Bobby Flay, Delia Smith and a few other chefs regularly appear on shows on BBC too.

And then, there's Nigella Lawson, she of the 'How To Eat' and 'How to be a Domestic Goddess' cookbooks fame. She's pretty popular amongst the guys because she's beautiful and sensuous. Widowed not too long ago too, so maybe, she's the fantasy woman for many a guy! Laughing

bittergourd is nice.. you just need to know how to cook it Wink

by scalding the sliced gourd, most of the bitterness is gone...

the worse vegetable is the horrific Broccoli.. now THAT is bitter..

however, studies show that the thing is less than useless now.. the bitter and sick smell of stale sewage that broccoli has, is the active stuff in preventing cancer... yet, the growers have been slowly breeding the stuff or GM-ing it out of the broccoli...

which means the hell-spawned vegetable we refer to as "broccoli" now, is kinda useless Razz

they don't use pesticides on the organic stuff. The pesticides are what gives a vegetable that bitter taste

they use alternate methods like using ladybugs, spiders and praying mantises roam their fields to get rid of pests.

I guess I only really dislike beetroots and I've never tasted artichokes, but other than that, there are no vegetables I resent.

I love broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, etc etc etc!!!

you've been eating the GM broccoli.. or you do not have the taste-buds that only about 25% of the people have.. they are termed the "super-tasters" Razz

people who cannot stand broccoli (because they can actually taste the evil decomposing whiff) have heck of a lot of more taste buds on their tongues than the majority of the people..

The nyonyas do it differently. My nyonya colleague says to slice the bittergourd thinly, throw a generous amount of salt onto them and kinda mix them about to get the salt to spread evenly. Leave to stand for about 15-20 mins or longer. Then, rinse off the salt and voila! Bittergourd sans the bitterness! Wink

Eh…how to cook brussel sprouts? Do they have worms inside the core? I’ve only had them at Ponderosa.
