Rhonda SG Aaaargh! On Tuesday evening, I wanted to put up this post specially for littlestream and those amongst us who love to cook and eat! And then, after painstakingly uploading the photos, I promptly forgot all about this thread! So, here it is, better late than never! Will put up the photos one by one! If you have any favourite cookbooks, share it with us too!
littlestream SG Erm........how come I don't/can't see anything? Need special password or magic word ah? Can PM me or not?
Rhonda SG Borders now has a 'Recommended' section for cookbooks! You can just about spot a few of the big-name cookbooks on that shelf! It's a good mix of Western and Asian chefs and their cookbooks. Kewl! Borders is still the place that revolutionised and livened up Singapore's book scene! I remember many an outing with a like-minded food-and-cooking-crazy ex-colleague to Borders when they just opened. We were always there, grabbing the heavily discounted cookbooks in their Bargain section. Borders is to be blamed for my huge cookbook library!
Rhonda SG This is a very new cookbook by a popular Malaysian cookbook writer, Betty Saw! She just became a Saw because she just got married. I think she used to be known as 'Betty Yew'. I love the very artistic and beautiful cover of the cookbook! Niiiice!
Rhonda SG Aiyah... wait mah! So gan cheong! Slowly! I have lots of photos! I spent about THREE HOURS in Kinokuniya Bookshop that day, after my exams!
Rhonda SG Have you tried any of the recipes inside? I have another one of his cookbooks. One day, I'll take a photo of it.
Rhonda SG Helloooo, Faye!! I bought the boxed collection of Vol. I & II. Did you get that one too? I also have her original cookbook, without all the photos. I've tried several recipes in there and they are very authentic!
Rhonda SG This would be a great cookbook for guys! A meat lovers' cookbook! A Cannivore's Cookbook! I would love to own that cookbook anyways. I can never be a vegetarian! Odd thing is, I don't really like steaks because I find them tougher to digest. But, that's not going to stop me from coveting this cookbook!
Rhonda SG This is another 'revamped' cookbook, also by Betty Saw. Recently, they've 'revamped' several old cookbooks that were extremely popular, adding photos for every single recipe, and adding interesting comments by the author.
TehJarVu SG yup, tried his baked fish and some others. got a pic of the fish but not well-taken:- 29.6.05
Rhonda SG This is a very interesting cookbook I saw on the shelves! It's a collection of the first Tunku of Malaysia's favourite recipes! Does that make this a 'historical cookbook'?
Rhonda SG Wow... the bluish tone makes it feel like we're all underwater! So, I gather that you found his recipes easy-to-follow and guaranteed success everytime? It's so important for a cookbook to fulfill these criteria!
Faye Valentine SG Really????? heheheh i got the one w/o pictures coz its cheaper! I will try the recipes soon! Probably this Sat when i am Finally free!!!!
TehJarVu SG i just find him funky and i always try to catch his programmes, they're on TV again this season, on Sat and Wed yeah, his recipes are easy-to-follow and he uses a lot of herbs, which i like.
Rhonda SG One of the recipes I tried from that cookbook was the Sambal Udang. It was sooooo sedap!! It's just like how grandma cooked it! Of course, I took the liberty of modifying the recipe a little here and a little there, because I still am able to remember a little bit of how grandma used to prepare that dish. She would cut up cucumbers in bite-sized chunks too for us to dip into the sambal! MMmmmmMMmm!!
Faye Valentine SG Gosh, i have no background in Nonya Cooking! But would love to trial and error! Would love to prepare deliciousssssss dishes for my family!!! Maybe i can consult you if i need help with the recipes
Rhonda SG The way he cooks is also very kewl! He flits here, tosses stuff there, looks like he's quite 'chor lor' ie. not so graceful, and clumsy, but then, he exhibits a natural flair for cooking. Everything he cooks just turns out looking so marvellous! And he doesn't have an air of pretence nor hoity-toitiness about him. He reaches out to the average man-in-the-street very effectively. Can't wait to try out his recipes one day!
