First, in Singapore CNB officers don't do the 'tasting'
thingy.
It's stupid, 'cause overtime you'll become addicted to drugs as
well, if you keep finding and tasting drugs.
Second, the reason why Singapore drug-enforcement officers don't
do that is because the amount seized is usually small. Any
retrieval of drug from the seized packet is considered 'tampering
of evidence', which in cases of 'capital punishment', where a
small fraction of difference in the amount will determine
whether the trafficker lives or be hanged, it is all the more of
paramount importance that the seized drug is NOT touched at
all.
In other countries, be it US, Columbia or Middle East, the drug
seizures come in TONNES. You can keep tasting it till your tongue
dropped and still the weight is in tonnes. So there's the
difference why in some countries the officers can do so, while in
Singapore it is a no-no.
