what are those dials for?

Hi,

I see some 'sports' car looking cars got installed with several small meters in addition to default meters like speedo, tacho etc. You know, those small sized meters like a set of 4 or 5 lined in a row on the dashboard.

I just like to know, if you also happen to have them, what are they for?

What are the benefits to have them? make the car faster?

and small engine cars that installed with large sports car exhaust. like 1.5 litre ones installed with sports car category exhausts.

Does this mean they need to 1st increase their engine power before can install those? How does this improve car speed or performance, if any?

Those meters that u mentioned are known as guages. They tell u info abt oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, boost (turbo), volt etc.. They add sportiness to a car, but IMHO they are cosmetics in non-sports cars..

For those small cars with big exhausts, IMHO only for cosmetic purposes (louder sound, bigger tip) only, not much improvement on performance.

haha.. i used to have all these funky gauges .. hardly mirco manage them. All tuned n set. haha.. its for light effects when drive at night. feels like driving a spaceship at night.

I hardly boost my turbo , configure optimum air flow etc etc.. its all for eye candy only. Laughing

the different dials tells the different time of different continents.

When I trekked my old car regularly, the gauges helped tell me when I'm pushing too hard and it's time to take my car in to rest.

Then they tell me when its cooled sufficiently to take it out again.

Some have turbo boost gauge so they know when it's about to kick in.

Then there is the air/fuel gauge... that helps tell when you are using the accelerator too much or too little (running too rich, or too lean - petrol/air mix).

Some put in a volt meter - you can monitor your battery here. I don't think a lot of cars come with this as a standard.

So... there is a point to the gauges, even if it's just to turn a hyundai into a ferrari in the owner's mind.

These days my car only has a small suction cup clock... and a cow decal.

Does this prove the effectiveness of Image Marketing, like Ads, and the inborn needs of people to want to flaunt or impress even though not real impress but visual or fake impress? Looking it another way, there is money to be made to sell decorations and bluff people ? Mr. Green some can be bluffed while others like to bluff those who can be bluffed?

And all these funny looking clock can be found mostly in those low end sedan namely the Vios, Lancer, City & some even in Matrix. Very Happy
