the Bear SG the taiwanese should settle it the way i would advise sbst to settle it with his folks... in a steel cage
laurence82 SG You know what? i think there is a massive failure in SG education system today I have talked to many of my classmates who are part time tuition teachers We were amazed at the huge amount of homework and the difficulty of their syllabus nowadays as compared to our time. And this learning school thinking nation thingie isnt working Day after day, its simply clearing tonnes of schoolwork after school hours, and then sleep. My classmates were simply helping them to clear their homework more than doing their main job, which is to help them in their weak subjects. And coming from the other topic, students dont find swimming courses, literature enrichment courses etc etc enriching. One reason is that those course dont help them in their syllabus Really saddening
sbst275 SG I see Anyway, can a tear gas exploded in a SMRT bus today The sabotager just walked off aft the tear gas exploded
The man who was death SG that's for chinese u know like ORZ, look at it horizontally it's like a person down on his knees with his head on the floor. english is use hanyu pinyin to test them. seriously, i dunno how they do it
Fatum SG it's this very Singaporean mindset of benchmarking everything and anything ..... read the thread started by someone bitching about not being given credit for CIP .... so there we have it ... a breed of young chaps with very good grades for everything but probably don't know nothing ....
the Bear SG and when we're doing something totally unique, they will look for something to benchmark against.. seriously! i asked why we should when such benchmarking was counterproductive and cost so much for less than nothing, i was given dirty looks by my senior management... however, they could not answer my question... so we're stuck "benchmarking" and spending about about 2 hours per week doing something totally pointless which no one wants to know about...
the Bear SG whatever the hell the con-men-sultants say... because, mostly, senior management people are afraid to go their own way... they will look for the path most travelled.. notice why most corporations use Windoze even when there's a better and FREE product available in Linux and StarOffice.. because Windoze is "the market leader" and the "market standard"... they're too afraid to even try..
Rhonda SG The thing is, with all the extra homework, it doesn't make the Singapore students any smarter. For instance, we claim that English is our first language, but the standard of English that we see around us is atrocious! You see students scoring higher and higher grades in general BUT, are they any smarter? Any more street-wise? Any more productive when they graduate and start contributing to the economy? Nope. No distinctive difference. I'm sure that in the long run, these students will suffer some sort of breakdown from all the stress. Imagine that you are subject to a stressful lifestyle from a young age!! And you get no respite from the mad rat race until retirement, or until one breaks down and falls ill! I do not like the idea of subjecting our young to such great stress at such tender ages!
sbst275 SG Did your read today's ST? It seems parents though no matter how highly qualified they are, still cannot believe it is faster thru Poly - Uni rt these days
sbst275 SG Not just that, there are this list of myths from parents 1) Poly takes in poor grades students 2) Poly students dun stand good chances in university 3) Poly students do not get into university 4) Poly only offers Biz and Eng courses
