FISH FIGHTS HEART DISEASE
''Women can lower their risk for heart diesease by over 30% if they
eat fish two to fourtimes or more a week, accordign to a study
published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Researchers evaluated data from a long-term study that tracked the
health of almost 85,000 women for over 14 years. The more fish
women consumed weekly, the lower their risk for heart disease. By
choosing fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, like herring, mackerel,
salmon and tuna, women may also lower cholesterol levels.
Omega-3 fatty acids are also known to decrease blood-clotting and
prevent irregular heart rhythms. Eating fish even once a week can
lower the risk of heart disease by nearly 30%, says study co-author
JoAnn E Manson, M.D., Chief of the Division of Preventive Medicine
at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
If you're not that fond of fish, previous studies show that fish
oil supplements may also protect the heart.
So, what are you waiting for? ... Eat your fish!!
