Rhonda SG Thanks soooo much, av! You know what... I think you're better off being single if getting married means going through all that and spending the rest of your life with an expensive flibbertigibbet!
SydneyLibrarian SG I've never heard of the four pieces of gold custom before! Sounds like a nightmare shopping so long for something so simple!
elindra SG That was why I wanted mine short and sweet and I think I was kinda mean about being firm about the tables and all Anyway both parents didn't come out with a single cent for our wedding so we had the final say, and also both sides kinda leave it up to us. But we did have a few additional tables just to keep my grandma happy
ShrodingersCat SG Agreed. My american cousin is getting married soon. (She's born in US) and her mum (my auntie) is complaining about how much money they're going to spend on the gown on the dinner on the everything cos they want to have a nice reception etc. AND they have a nice beautiful house they have a party at! I think the guy is jewish so there are some customs they need to adhere to as well. So.. Hmmm it isnt just traditional chinese wedding dinners.
Rhonda SG Yeah, it isn't just the Chinese. Have you ever watched ang moh videos like "The Wedding Planner" or picked up a copy of Martha Stewart's special edition magazines on Weddings to flip through? My word! The extravagance! And last night, I watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" on TV again... Greek weddings certainly looked expensive too, and a big hoo-ha to boot! I guess as long as you have weddings, there'll always be expenses involved. Thing is, it scares the hell outta me! There's like no end to this insanity!! Some females turn into wedding monsters! It's like they have this funny hope since they were little girls that their dream wedding should be like this and like that and they turn into control freaks and money-spending monsters just to make their dreams a reality! They get all shrill-voiced and upset when they don't get their perfect gown, when things go awry and not according to their best schemed plans... I can imagine how scary it must be for the groom to watch... cause I get freaked out watching them!!
ShrodingersCat SG Understandably, most women want the occasion to be special and want to look gorrrrrgeeeouus for the occasion. It is perfectly okay to feel this way. But yeah, the micromanagement and obsessive attention to detail (i.e. but i WANT blue confetti!!!!) gets a bit freaky. Honestly, some grooms just feed it and make it worse (its ok honey, we'll go get the blue confetti now even though its past midnight but I know mustafa is open) I am sure there's a golden mean there somewhere which allows the enlightened middle path between total gorgeousness, grandeur and gorgon-like self obsession, and the other extreme.
Rhonda SG It IS a special day, BUT there's no need to micromanage and become some Freaky Obsessive Wedding She-Monster! I know of friends who had fun weddings and they didn't freak out over it!
