I've seen and heard of too many sad real-life stories of people
dumping people, people making use of people, people dumping their
fiance(es) at the altar... it's enough to send one into a spiral of
depression and hopelessness.
However, recently, I've had a sense of quiet peace and acceptance
wash over me... For me, the time has come to end a chapter and open
an entirely new chapter. I've discovered how much my current job
has subdued me. In order to get along with my colleagues and be as
much a part of the work culture as I possibly could, I have had to
stifle a lot of 'me'. I've almost forgotten the real 'me' but it's
slowly re-surfacing again now.
I was happy being single. I was also happy being attached. I guess
whatever our situation is, we should just make the most of it and
live as wholesome a life as we possibly can.
For a long while, I kinda 'lost it' and started to wander around,
without direction. I guess I've pulled myself out of the depths and
now, am steering my ship back on course. I feel like I want to be
single for now, there's so much to do and achieve and should I meet
the one, well and good, if not, I'm still the captain of my ship!
I'm glad that I march
to my own drumbeat and I've never felt that biological clock nor
that pressure to get married by a certain age, and woe to those who
try to impose that on me!

I feel sorry for your friend who has been dumped, and I wish her
well. Sometimes, we feel as if we are buried under a ton of dirt
and we just want to disappear off the face of earth... but hang in
there... slowly but surely, one can always inch one's way out of
the muck. Always. That's the basic promise of life itself -
hope.
Please be there for your girlfriend, she really needs the support
now. I always think back and bless my friends, esp SL, who stuck by
me everytime.
Let her cry, let
her whine, let her repeat her story over and over again... she
needs to do that... and soon, she'll be ready to embark on the
journey of forgetting and moving on.
I wish her well.
