i agree. while personal responsibility is, well, personal, a person's personal mentality is shaped thru social conditioning. Even the influences from his friends and family are affected by social conditioning because his friends and family will also be influenced by society.

heh my friend went to the STA office at Imperial College to get a european mainland train pass. After queueing for half an hour, he got to the front only to be told he needed to bring his passport along. He said "cheeeee byeeeee" and the lady at the counter asked him what that meant. he smiled n said :

"oh, it means never mind" Laughing

seriously i think its no point insulting someone when they don't get the insult. and if u think americans are loud, u ain't heard the greeks and italians yet. Thats why I don't like them too much either.

lets just say i can understand people in central london. move me to essex(which technically is still part of London), and i understand nought. Laughing

its amazing but i think we always expect the americans n the brits to be able to speak perfect english. but as with every language, it needs to be learned to be spoken well, and just as with every race of people, there will be those whose aptitude for language is lesser than others, and there will be the lazy bums who just have no interest in learning a language well, so of course there will be the illiterates.

Ok, just an experience I want to share with you guys on how loud and *dumb* a Singaporean can get when they're outside their country:

When I was visiting some friends in Dubai, we went to this nice mall (Mercado Mall). We went to look for a free parking space just beside the mall. Of course, you should follow where the arrow points so that you'll know what's the direction of the traffic. When we were almost going inside this vacant parking space, all of the sudden, we saw a car speeding "directly coming in front of us and *against the direction of the arrow - which simply means they on the wrong side of the road". 2 ladies went out of their car, around their mid-20's. *SHOUTING* (In Singlish) "We found that space first leh!". We tried to be calm, explained to them that even though they just came from the entrance of the parking space and the parking space is near that area....You're still using the wrong direction.

Worse came to worse.... They shouted "K.N.N.", (I felt really funny when they're shouting those words at people who naturally know what it meant)... Anyway, we just ignored them and left our car, they weren't happy and shouted "CCB!". Mad

Worse came to worse, I was pissed off. My friends stopped me from attacking those original CCB's! But, after I explained to them what it means, they agreed to join the fun! Smile

At the end, I told those gals not to show how stupid & dumb they are in other countries. People might think Singaporeans are really that way. Sad

That really ruined our day. And brought back an interesting story to my folks back home.

Ladies can be real 'gansters' when it comes to parking space
My hubby just experienced that last Saturday Laughing

We went to pick up my brother from the airport. It was peak hour so it's kinda hard to find a carpark. We were lucky to get one close to the entrance.

So happens, there was a car behind us so my hubby decided to let them pass before parking. Who knows the driver went past the car and tried to park head in into our lot Surprised (female driver Confused my gender )

Of course my hubby wasn't going to allow that to happen and he blared the horn at them and drove forward. Good thing she backed off.....wonder what will happen if it got nasty

It so happened there was someone walking past as well. Could hear his comments from inside the car loud and clear too Laughing He said," Wah so hiong!! Try to steal other peoples' parking space."

I'm not sure i'll do anything though ..... not quite out of a sense of chivalry or anything like that ... but the thing is ... what can you do ? ... hit the girl ? ...

sometimes, females have it better .... they can use their gender to their advantage ... just jut out your chest (pardon me ... ) and we'll have to surrender already ... Confused

hey dude, I dont think there is such thing as system and manners in ME and MEs the last place on earth where you want to be mr nice guy.

Having said that, there is also a high chance that the 2 ladies might not be used to driving on the right side of the road.

Whatever it is, this kinda of shi.t happens everywhere it is not just singaporean.

Yes, not all places in ME doesn't have a system in manners. I've been in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and yes, Dubai... It's just strange that it was a first time that I've seen such a *tourist* (I'm not sure if they are because they're driving a company car that says "SIA". Flight attendants, I assume?

Having said that, there is also a high chance that the 2 ladies might not be used to driving on the right side of the road.

Could be but not with a *HUGE WHITE* arrow pointing in front of them? What other way could it mean?

In middle east you can even drive in the opposite direction of the road.. Laughing
or do a illegal U-Turn by driving up the curb with your 4x4..
