charlize SG What makes you think people from around the region and coming from as far as India and China won't be fighting with you for jobs in the IR? They ask for $800 a month. You want to fight with them for that waiter's job at the IR?
sbst275 SG Thought they have already set a ceiling of 80% of staff are locals or something like that?
charlize SG Simple, they just import experienced "talents" from overseas to manage the IR. The remaining lower supporting jobs will be fought among Singaporeans and the rest of the world.
sbst275 SG Well, they have to get this eventually - What they said abt creating as many jobs as possible have to be realistic
av98m SG They might set wages so low even the locals do not want the jobs, then complain that they cannot fill up the vacancies and ask for waivers so that they can hire cheaper labour from around the region.
sbst275 SG Actually, by right that ceiling is to make sure they take the locals... Of course there are loopholes as what you have pointed out
sbst275 SG Eventually, one day hope 1 fine thing happened and they have no more reasons on why no takers
sbst275 SG It was already stated The percentage I cannot remember that already, 6 mths ago liao... You build the IR and end up falls to foreign workers... What's the point of saying jobs then?
sbst275 SG Yes they are considered But do you know how difficult is it to be a PR these days? If you are just an ordinary citizen?
dragg SG it will never happen. there are plenty of foreigners interested in earning singapore dollars.
charlize SG If I also recall, when asked by an MP in Parliament as to how many of the jobs are reserved for locals, no direct answer was given. Only that 35,000 (correct me if I am wrong) jobs would be created.
sbst275 SG Well, eventually 1 day there will be a better place for them to work Here buy liqour so ex, ever since LHL came in, their samsoo prices raised by 100%... Burning their pockets
sbst275 SG 40,000 would be created In fact, that is already more than 1% of the local 3.6M population
av98m SG Especially from countries with much lower cost/standard of living. They can send money back home which will buy far more than what we can here. Some of these workers actually have big houses and land back in their villages.
