I REFER to the letter, 'Revive medical benefits for regular blood
donors' (ST, Nov 15).
I am a champion blood donor. I always consider blood donation as
the greatest gift one can bestow on unknown others. I never donated
blood expecting anything in return.
For the record, I also donated my body for medical purposes as
early as 1976, when I was young, at my creative best and in good
physical health. This was reported on the front page of the
venerable paper Streats on Jan 24, 2003.
I always carry my body-donation card on my person wherever I go,
even now when I am in Canberra on a project.
As a Buddhist, I remember Lord Buddha exhorting:
'This body of flesh and blood I bear
'All for the world's good and welfare...'
Our reason for donating blood should always be to make a gift of
liquid love, expecting no returns whatsoever.
