I'm now slowly getting acquainted with my digicam-baby, the Canon A520. I was on a long journey on the MRT today and was reading the manual and realised that I have just bought myself a camera with a whole lot of fanciful features and I sure hope I'll get to master them soon! Razz

Well, there's nothing that'll help you get acquainted more than practice, practice, practice! So, here are the first few shots I took with my digicam-baby!

Constructive criticisms are welcome! Very Happy

First shot! Wink Whilst waiting for a friend near the MRT Station, I looked up and decided to see what my digicam-baby can do on Auto mode.

Then, a test of its optical zoom capabilities...

Next, I tested the optical zoom even more... by taking this photo of foliage... from the 7th storey of a block of HDB flats!!! Awesome what a 4X Optical Zoom digicam can do, isn't it? Wink I was impressed by my digicam-baby! Very Happy

And next, peekaboo... a zoomed in shot of the flowers grown by someone residing on the floor below. For this, I dangled my digicam-baby over the railings. Razz

Dangled?? Shocked Whew..please take care of your baby Laughing

Bet you had loads of fun with your camera. Very Happy Shots look fine for on-the-spur moments. How much did you buy your Canon anyway?

Rhonda SG

There's a Canon promotion right now in conjunction with the Great Singapore Sale. You can see details in the poster on Page 1 of this thread. Wink

My digicam-baby was supposed to be sold at a recommended retail price of $499 but I got it at PS Computers at Funan Ctr for just $459 and it's still inclusive of the freebies that come along with it during this promtional period. Very Happy Naturally, I was mighty pleased! Mr. Green

I think I'll read the manual some more and try to absorb as much as I can and then put it into practice. The digicam-baby came with a free lesson too, but I think I will schedulue it later, after I get to spend more time practicing on it first so that if I have questions, I can ask them all in class.

The shots are very amateurish but I think, good enough for me. Mr. Green

Thanks, Ratty! Embarassed

So, you might wanna consider buying the Canon A520. Wink Loads of functions! It's cheaper than the Exilims but then again, you get tons of features for the A520 whereas for the Exilims, you're paying for the design and the smaller size.

So, would you prefer beauty, or would you prefer heavy-duty functionalism? Wink Laughing

I'm going to have fun over the next few weeks / months, harnessing the full power of my digicam-baby! Mr. Green

The class is quite useful. It's at Canon DMH at Bugis I think Laughing

Rhonda SG

I'll be registering for a class later, I think. Now is too soon. I have a habit of trying to find the answers to my questions first via research / reading up and plain trial and error first before asking.

(Y'know, sadly, a lot of tutors would misinterpret my silence as me being 'uninterested' but it's actually me wanting to clear my doubts by doing further reading and research by myself first. Rolling Eyes So, folks who don't bother to read nor do their research, and ask all sorts of silly questions would be labelled as 'a very interested and motivated student' whilst I'd be sitting there thinking, 'this person did not read her notes and didn't bother to do background reading'. Razz )

Maybe, I'll meet fellow amateur digicam-baby fans there too, and then, can go out and take amateur photos together. Mr. Green If it's fellow GENTLEMEN digicam-baby users, even better still!! Razz Embarassed

Hmm... was just talking to SL about my new acquisition, my digicam-baby, when she asked 'Who did you go with to buy it?'

Then I realised, I shopped like a man this time round!! Laughing

Prior to the purchase, I did all my 'homework'. Then, when I was ready to buy, I just walked into the shop, said, 'Hello! I want to buy a Canon A520 digicam' and that was it.

I didn't realise it till SL asked me. This is such atypical shopping behaviour for me! Shopping like a man!! Laughing

Hmm... the 'grab and pay' mentality? Laughing

Rhonda SG

Eh, Ratty, all your questions have already been answered at some point in this thread so I'm going to make you work for your answer - you'd have to sieve through the posts! Twisted Evil
