In an emergency, anyone who can help should help even if it takes
some risks
I am saddened by the death of the little girl Kiki (ST Online Forum
Oct 31).
The Comfort cabby and the police patrol which declined to help the
sick girl being rushed to hospital show how insensitive and
heartless are some of our professionals. A life could have been
saved if they had some sense and compassion.
My concern is, will Singaporeans learn a lesson from this? Being a
former cabby, I had rushed a pregnant woman from Sun Plaza to KK
Hospital when she told me that her water-bag would burst at any
moment. She was profusely thankful that I tried my best.
In an emergency, I believe that anyone who is in a position to help
must take some risks to help our fellow citizens.
I was told that in case of emergency and if this is confirmed by
the hospital, the Traffic Police may consider not taking action
against the speeding driver.
Can the authorities enlighten us on this?
