the Bear SG here's what you should pack: some clothes (give most of your clothes to the salvos.. travel light) your certs and qualifications a couple pairs of shoes (1 pair for each purpose) vital medication for a month that's it... the rest is just extra load...
Fatum SG have you been scouting for a job there Rhonda ? ... that would be your biggest worry eh ..... I dunno about Oz ... but you read about PhDs migrants driving cabs in toronto all the time .....
borgkilla SG hmmm i am assuming you are planning to emigrate... but since you are migrating ... which flock are you heading down south with ? lol sorry just messing with you If you really plan on leaving SG for good.. i would suggest bring only essential personal things. furniture etc etc you can get it at your destination
Rhonda SG Excuse me, Fatum, I'm a Nurse. Haven't you heard, there's a worldwide demand for us. I'll be leaving here with a job in hand. The question for me would be, 'Which job to select? Which hospital to work for?' and not 'Would I get a job?' Sweeeeeeeet! Six years ago, I made a brave decision because I foresaw stuff that was going to happen when I was in my HR job... now, after putting in so much blood, sweat and tears, I'm going to reap the first fruits of my labour soon! Whoooooooppeeeeeee!!!
Rhonda SG I'm a-flocking with the 'White Angels' team! And yeah, leaving my furniture behind. Brand new start!
Rhonda SG Wow... *gulp... that's REALLY packing light! But... but... *gulp... I have all my accessories, my cookbooks, my curio trinkets...
Fatum SG well, i dunno about the situation mah .... some countries are very "niao" in recognizing vocational certifications from other countries mah ... hence the PhDs driving cabs ....
the Bear SG they will end up collecting dust.. you will eventually go there and buy more of the stuff..
Weirdo80 SG Let me be the first Australian to wish you a big welcome to Australia! You will find our country a lot more hospitable than the little red dot. Pack light, that's all I can say. Whatever you can buy in Singapore, you should be able to buy in Australia. Nowadays with e-commerce, anything is accessible easily. The only thing that you will really miss is the hawker food! The food here just doesn't cut it...but other than that, I am sure you will enjoy living in Australia like thousands of other people have. Where are you moving to? *crosses fingers* QLD QLD QLD QLD QLD QLD....
the Bear SG that's where you're wrong.. must be ruthless.. 1 pair for work 1 pair for casual wear (probably runners) 1 pair for the gym (if she works out) 1 pair for walking to work (may be omitted if use the gym pair) that's it.. no need for more..
InnoHippo SG dont forget your favourite pillow/bolster/stuffed toy ........ if not, cannot sleep properly
borgkilla SG well good for you .. wish i could do the same .. stuff to bring along photo albums and any items that you have an attachment to. cook books dont bother .. its really heavy
Rhonda SG Hello, Weirdo80! Thanks! Thanks!! I'm moving to Melbourne! The agent kept trying to tempt me by asking, 'Are you SUUUURE you don't wanna move to Sydney?', because there's a huge hospital there specialising in the discipline I've been in for the past three years but, heard from SL and a few other friends about the high cost of living in Sydney, so Melbourne it shall be! Welcome to Club 30, Weirdo80! Make yourself at home in our online lounging pad!
Rhonda SG But... but... my cookbooks collection is amazing!! I CANNOT abandon it!! Die die MUST keep them intact, either in storage here, or ship them over there!
choco B SG IMO having a pc and internet connection is one of the essentials when overseas for extended periods. That's cos while most items are readily available over there, nothing beats being able to communicate cheaply and conveniently with loved ones back home, or having some form of entertainment when you're alone in a new city and may not have established a wide social network yet. But that's just my opoinion. Cybercafes are good too.
Rhonda SG Erm... not for me leh! I have : 1 pair of 'high' heeled shoes 1 pair of heeled sandals 1 pair of flat sandals 5 pairs of exercise shoes That's it. BUT, that's because it's hard for me to find shoes of my size and width! Now, once I'm over at Australia, I'm going to start purchasing them shoes!! I've already flipped through a catalogue of an Aussie shoe maker and woooooohooooooo!! I'm sure they have shoes that fit me there!
