Actually, these huge conglomerates have destroyed a lot of small
businesses and in the process, robbed quite a large no. of people
of their jobs. There is a multiplier effect at work when small
businesses are in operation.
Also, they hire but they will also fire in bad times. Remember the
lay-offs during recession? Or, even when there isn't a recession,
they can always hire 'contract staff' and save on having to give
much, if any, benefits to their contract staff.
And the list goes on...
