Actually, keeping the cut apples in soaked in salt water helps. I think you might not have added enough salt in your water? Even restaurants use this method for their cut apples, pears and other fruits.

Heard that if you put onions in the fridge, when you take them out to cut, you will not tear so much.

The smell of pandan leaves keeps roaches away from the car or the cabinet.

Towels appear to dry faster if you keep them outside the bathroom.

And if you prefer to save water, open and fill the cistern of your toilet with not-so-soapy recycled water (from the washing machine) after each flush. (Well, it's possible with ours as it uses a lever mechanism and the top can be opened.)

Not quite the smell... it's the fumes released by the tissues of the onion when you slice it. These noxious fumes irritate our tear ducts and make us tear. Neutral

Alternatively, if no time to wait for the onions to turn cold in the fridge, wear your swimming goggles! Laughing

the browning of cut apples is a natural plants' response to injuries which is complicated process starting off with the necrosis of the area to 'isolate' it.
it is an oxidation process if i can remember. (plant biology ARENT my forte)

Yes, it's a sign of oxidation going on. But we're in a 'Handy Hints' thread so maybe that's why no one's focusing that much on the Why's but rather, more on the How's. Wink

Oh yeah, wehn my parents used to run a shop, they'd wrap bananas in newspapers to speed up the ripening process. Wait, or is it the reverse?

Anyway, one great tip I found when moving in... to remove bad fridge smells, squeeze lime juice all over the fridge and leave them in.. and turn the fridge on... just a little something my fiance discovered... otherwise a fridge deodorant costs exorbitant
