1. SMRT Taxis, Singapore’s largest operator of eco-friendly
taxis, is looking to gradually replace more diesel-powered taxis
with green vehicles. In August 2016, commuters can look forward to
greener, safer and more comfortable rides with SMRT Taxis as it
rolls out the new fourth-generation Toyota Prius Hybrid for
passenger service.
2. Apart from better fuel efficiency and even lower carbon
footprint, the new Prius will offer commuters a safer and more
comfortable ride. The new vehicle comes with an upgraded suspension
for a smoother ride, roomier passenger cabin for a more comfortable
journey, as well as improved sound absorbing features for a quieter
ride.
3. Mr. Benny Lim, Managing Director of SMRT Roads said: “As a
public transport operator, one of our goals is to provide safe and
reliable rides in the most energy and fuel efficient way. We aim to
make half our taxi fleet ‘green’ by the end of the year in our
efforts to protect our environment through reducing our carbon
footprint. We are happy to support the government’s on-going
efforts to create a cleaner and greener living environment for all
Singaporeans.”
4. SMRT Taxis introduced eco-friendly vehicles to its fleet in
October 2013. It currently has a fleet of about 1,600 eco-friendly
taxis, which makes up about 45% per cent of its over 3,500-strong
fleet.
5. Mr. Yap Boon Chung Vincent, who has been driving an SMRT
Prius taxi since the introduction of the vehicle to the fleet,
said: “I look forward to serving passengers with the new
fourth-generation Prius. I have always enjoyed the smooth ride that
the current Prius model offers, as I spend a fair amount of time
plying the roads daily. With the improved fuel efficiency of the
latest model, drivers like me can really benefit from the petrol
cost savings.”
