The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has called tenders to install
lifts at 17 existing pedestrian overhead bridges in areas such as
Boon Lay Way and Serangoon Central.
In January, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew had announced that the
LTA will install lifts at 40 overhead bridges islandwide. The 17
are the first batch of 40 to be retrofitted.
In a statement, the LTA said the installation of lifts "is part of
efforts to further enhance accessibility to our transport
infrastructure, especially for the less mobile". Construction will
begin early next year and the lifts will be progressively completed
from 2016.
The LTA will announce the locations of the remaining overhead
bridges by early next year.
