There 2 types of overhauling, half and full.
Half overhauling if vehicle is still in ok condition, and in pte
car, it cos about $5k with gasket change and all other services.
Half overhauling is only removing the top engine cover and all
those fuel injectors, liners, piston, piston rings, connecting rods
and crankshaft will be visual inspection, and if found worn, might
need to change. And that may go into full overhauling.
A full overhauling is when engine is jerking, heat up faster
than usual, take more fuel and lots of exhaust fume were noted. And
of course, knocking sound and lack of power. A typical full
overhauling can cost about 10k for pte car. Not including parts
changes needed.
What I quote here is base on agent prices. For Taxis companies,
they got their own workshop to do it, and with OEM contract, it
will be much cheaper, basically, they can also use accident
scrap vehicle to do the changing of parts.
The most a vehicle go thru overhauling is 2 times, one half and
another full at 500000km, and thereafter, about to scrap liao.
