Why I don't want to be a taxi driver.
Once a PAP grassroot leader ask me why don't be a taxi driver,
when I complained to him of the difficulty of the over 40 to get a
good job. We have only O levels and have worked hard for over 20
years to mid management levels, and then suddenly in the name of
survival for all, we were swept off the economic ladder. Fair
enough, out with the old, in with the young, give the young ones a
chance. I am ok with that, but the foreigh talents?
I ask him isn't that a sign that we have gone wrong somewhere in
our education, and countries like India, China, Philippines,
Vietnam got their education programme right 10, 20 years ago? And
these countries nationals are now comming here as talents. While we
are asked to be taxi drivers, and labled as choosy, costly and
sickly. I say with all my learning, QCs, upgrading, skills, and
work discipline, am I to be a taxi driver?
The bloody bugger kept silent.
