Everyday approaching midnight, there will be a long queue at clarke quay taxi stands. Most queuing up are ang moh or tourists. Then there will be a handful of Merc Cabs parked along the road dunno waiting for what.

Question is... waiting for what ah??

Clarke Quay. also, its a popular nightspots for all the ang mohs?

been there a few times, and lost my way, ended up asking a american lady how to go there, in the end, both of us lost our way.

Merc Cabs at that time , they don't service local customers , they "fish" for Ang-Mos ......

Local people have to go by meter ..... where got "meat" ? From Clarke to Boat Quay , meter $4.00 , ang-mo $15 for one short trip like that .

Ang-Mo tourist pay and say "Thank-You very much " , local pay and complaint to LTA , and write to St Forum the next day ! Mr. Green

Ang-Mo they go by "per-trip" - $15 to $35 per trip , depending on distance !

Locals never say "YES" to per trip , locals go by meter , even if they can afford $35 , they will complaint later .

thanks for the reply. at first i tot they are waiting for private passengers who hire them for the whole day. but i see those people queuing for the taxis very jialat. long queue, long waiting time. and along the side, packs of empty merc cabs with their drivers outside talking to one another.

since they cannot approach the people to solicit for flat rate rides(big notice board along the taxi-stand warning offenders) , they just have to wait for passengers to approach them. usually they are ang mohs/tourists too fed up of queuing.

many merc cabs already look old and dusty.. most of these merc cabbies are into these flat fare thing also... like same gang

tanah merah ferry terminal also another place. flat fare $35 to city.

now we got Skoda, Sonata, VW all also "premium" $2.70... jus that Mercedes are still the upper class taxis... Mad

Oh , Comfort ( Soverign ), Citycab ( Presido ) , SMRT ( Prestige ) all has one common regulation , all has to be in uniform white , dark coloured pants , shoes ( no track-shoes , no sandals , but with those leather black shoes ) , whereas ties is optional .

English quite good ? Ok .... they must go through a simple language test .
