Cab Hits 11
Vehicles In Carpark
A Comfort cabby got into his taxi after his dinner break and ended
up smashing 11 vehicles.
The 56-year old was driving out of the carpark in Bedok North
Street 1, Block 519, when he lost control of his vehicle at 6.30pm
on Sunday.
He ploughed into four lorries, five cars, a van and a motorcycle
parked at the carpark. And it was clear why when he got out of his
cab, shaken.
Police who arrived on the scene said he was walking unsteadily, and
a subsequent breathalyser test showed that his blood alcohol level
was above the legal limit. No one was hurt.
It is understood that he had been drinking at a coffee shop with a
friend before the accident.
He got up to leave when he realised he was supposed to change
shifts with another taxi driver waiting for him at Holland Road at
6pm.
Yesterday morning, he was released on bail from the Traffic Police
headquarters. But he will not be driving again for Comfort.
ComfortDelGro spokesman Tammy Tan said: "We are shocked to learn of
this and dismayed that one of our drivers could have done such a
thing.
"We do not condone dangerous driving and will be terminating his
agreement with immediate effect. We are thankful no one was
injured."
