There are 98% crowns in HK is because of the wide available
parts for these cabs, remember they used to have 90% of market (The
diesel crown comfort), as the Government decided to change the taxi
to LPG, alot of those crown got scrapped
(ranging from 5 years old to 1/2 year) therefore there are lot of
parts to make the new LPG crown alive..(at
least it’s rare for the LPG crown to written
off after an accident, becasue 2nd body are in a thousands..) and
such as the doors cost about $1000 HK (roughtly $200 Singpoare
dollar for 4 of them….) with this kind of part price, owner will
willing to stick with Toyota, even the Nissan LPG are getting scrapped, because no driver are willing
to take their cab to fix in a dealer, when a nissan broke down, and
the repairing cost more then 2 times a Crown, they simply disposed
the nissan, and buy a new Toyota….beside, Nissan decided not to
import anymore taxi to hk, their taxi business is finally over
after almost 35 years (since middle of 60’s) compare to Toyota
(which started to import cabs @ 1979).
