Growing Cows for their meat is also inefficient. These
cows have to be fed for years with grain before they are big enough
for slaughter and consumption. So there are arguments that
the amount of food used to feed cattle can actually feed the
starving people in the 3rd world!
As for most efficient sources of protein, the argument is "eat
bugs." Insects grow fast and in huge numbers while being an
excellent source of protein.
In short
Most people live to eat instead of eat to live these days
With better purchasing power, people will want to buy meat and
not vegetables or plant food.
And even if people cut down on meat, do you seriously think they
will want to ship those food to 3rd world countries to feed the
poor? End of the day it's all about profitability.
Anyway, just give me my steak and I'm good
