Milan will play Alessandro Costacurta in the centre of defence
in place of the suspended Sandro Nesta in Sundays game at Palermo.
It will be an experienced back-four of Cafu, Costacurta, Maldini
and Pancaro who have won plenty throughout their careers. In fact
the thirtysomethings have won around seventy honours between them,
with Milan, Brazil, Roma, San Paolo and Lazio. Coach Carlo
Ancelotti revealed his thinking of who he will pick at a press
conference before the full squad left for Sicily. He said:
'Costacurta will take Nestas place, Shevchenko, Crespo and Kaka
will play in attack and I just have to decide on the midfield.
Ancelotti added: 'Even if Tomasson plays nothing changes in our
attack from a tactical point of view. There is plenty of
competition for places here and everyone has to keep their
concentration at a high level. It allows the coach the luxury of
picking a side from a number of possibilities. The balance of the
side is down to everyone working together, with the greatest number
of players possible to choose from. At present, everything is going
well and that gives everyone within the team plenty of
satisfaction.'
