Chick Lit

icyprincess SG

Chick Lit consists of easy-reading book written by and for young, sophisticated girls. Some of the famous authors in this category are Sophie Kinsella (Shopaholic's series), Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones' Diary), Jane Green, etc. So anyone who likes a chick flick? Recommend your choice here!

Personally, I love the Shopaholic' series, I have read all of them Mr. Green I also like Jane Green a lot, but IMO, Bridget Jones' Diary is better on screen then in the book Wink

Amazingly, I havent read any of the Shopaholics books yet!! Laughing
My girlfriends all have but dunno why, never got round to it....I always thought of them as holiday books, and I havent had time for a holiday in ages.. Very Happy

Just bought Helen Fieldings "Trading Up" though...will read it next week when I'm in Krabi, lazing by the pool, with a cocktail in my hand Mr. Green

but yah, I agree her books are better on screen...maybe its because Renee does such a good job as Bridget!:

oh..you shud read Shopaholics! Mr. Green Becky (the main character in the book) is so adorable! And you should read another book from Sophie Kinsella too, I think the title is Can you keep a secret? They are making that into a movie soon, starring Kate Hudson. I can't wait, because I think she is perfect for that role. I wish they can make a movie out of the Shopaholics' series!

Bridget Jones
I love the Bridget Jones books, and I love Renee as Bridget. But I don't think the movies brought out the books very well. Especially not the Edge of Reason movie, which was a total farce IMO Razz The intimate friendships of Bridget's that forms the very core of her stories, are barely touched on in the movies. The movies do better on their own , than with any comparison to the books.

Shopaholic .... ah it's a funny love-hate relationship I have with this series. I hated the protoganist ... but any book that evokes strong feelings from the reader must be good? Wink Hehehhe. Shopaholic stories are too fantastical, impossible and far-fetched... but they have their entertaining moments. It's interesting that Kinsella's books are usually about a person's nature to take the easy way out by giving in to deceit.

Trading Up is Candace Bushnell's isn't it? SATC - the classic. The book is much darker than the TV adaptation though the essence remains.

i guess i tried to watch some... kinda got disinterested quickly...

put it down to diff'rent strokes i guess... i found series like Twin Peaks engrossing Razz

back to the books... don't think i've read any except for the Bridget Jones books and promptly forgot the contents Razz

I watched SATC on the TV here during winter break (but now got no more time to watch them cos swamped by hw and projects..) but I think I like Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond more, for comedies..

I just bought a book today...not a chick lit tho. It is "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime"

Its quite easy reading, finished it in a couple of hours....very touching story about an autistic boy. How he sees the world, how he interprets his familys break up.....sometimes funny, sometimes tender, sometimes heartbreaking....

Just saw this post Mr. Green

Some of my fave chick lit authors are Cathy Kelly (a new book of hers, Always & Forever, is due out this month!), Jane Green (yea her books are good, aren't they? Smile ), Melissa Hill, & Patricia Scanlan.

Can't think of any others, but when I do, I'll add them to this list! Wink
