What will your reaction be when your malay muslim friend suddenly say he is converting to other religion example Christian??

I have encountered many reactions before, from silence to understanding to havoc.

Some can be just understanding but some would suddenly get worked up and start to shoot words that can be hurtful.

What are the views generally among muslims on this??

Do you just keep quiet or go all out to bring the malay guy down??

I have received emails before telling malay muslims to be careful of this particular malay christian whom is going around preaching.

I mean, I find it quite adsurd to be going around making a big hoo haa over the conversion. Very Happy

i would ask that person (friend) why or what is it about that particular faith (e.g Christianity) that he is attracted to and why he wanted to leave Islam.

Yes i would think that the general reaction of most would be like what u've stated, but it is more important to have a rational discussion.

if i am a muslim, i will ask what has attracted dat person to the religon and thus converting. But for elders(muslims), they will most probably be startled since its against the religion to convert.

As I've said before, anything that can be discussed is welcome so long as all parties remain objective.

I can see that this is a pretty touchy issue, but so long as I see no flames being lit, I'll let it go on.

I say this to everyone: go ahead and have your say, but remain objective and even-handed.

Well obviously Im not asking for any flamers around... just asking what are the views.

Maybe the reason of the conversion because he finds peace in that religion. And its his own calling to actually convert.

But many malay muslims would make so much noise till it can reach headlines.

I mean...come on...whats the big deal...

the problem is as i understand according islamism( dunnow hats the word for it) it is forbidden to convert on pain of death.....

i'm guessing that the christians had the same problems last time but we don't really see it now cos the initial period is over. Bhuddhism doesn't have it cos i guess theres no restrictions and no active conversions??

Theres really nothing much to say. Since hes a nice dude to be my friend, hes a nice dude still. I'm not implying any futility of religion but damn, its time already to put that crutch away and run and hug and rejoice in some happy simple companionship. Laughing

Well, I won't lie to you guys. I won't exactly be thrilled to know that someone has left Islam for another religion.

At the same time though, I won't create a huge ruckus over it. I would talk to him and try to glean from him the reasons for his doing so.

I won't judge him based on what he did - that's for God to decide.

Well, I can't really speak for others.

For me, the way I see it, a rational dialogue and discussion with apostates from Islam would be far more meaningful than rage and violence.

You might want to read this article which I've provided at the end of this posting. It's about a future convert to Islam asking about apostasy. The counsellor's answer is quite interesting, really.

well, if it happens for me, i would ask him why he wants to convert. chat with him, try to change his perspective, tell him wad i know abt islam and stuff. it's not a really big deal anyway.

but hey, if he wants to preach other muslims, i might stop him from doing that. but in KL, so many muslims drink beer lah, champagne lah. convert to other religion is better lah..
