northern Thai town of Chiang Mai province, 700km (435 miles) north
of Bangkok March 31, 2006. Residents in Chiang Mai, the hometown of
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, complain that political turmoil
in Bangkok where protesters have been conducting street rallies for
the past nine months have scared the foreign tourists away.
