An outbreak of bird flu in Indonesia is steadily claiming more human lives.

A 27-year-old woman from Java became the latest victim on Monday, plunging her family into grief.

People who knew her must now be tested for the disease, in case they too had been in contact with infected birds.

Government representatives are meeting WHO officials to try to tackle the outbreak.

The authorities aim to educate people about the risks of bird flu, using TV, newspaper and poster campaigns.

They have also launched a widespread programme of vaccination of poultry, as well as birds living in zoos and people's homes.

But for ordinary people life goes on, with many people handling chickens in the same way they always have.
