Why not. Get team mates to take turn buying wards. Or the best
farmer in the team (eg kotl, razor, sniper etc).
Strength heroes holding gem sounds good (because hard to kill), but
if enemies see that, they'd most likely focus on killing that hero
and then taking your gem.
Not to mention that if your strength hero runs around rivers and
see mines, he also lan lan (because all strength heroes are melee,
except dragon-knight ult) and must wait for a ranged team-mate to
come destroy.
