With Chinese-speaking friends, Singlish is inevitable. Online also the same.

With English-speaking friends, have to adjust. Others, will be proper English.

what i'm baffled by is some people's insistence on standard English 24/7, and also some people's refusal to switch away from Singlish when the need arises

hmm. do you guys feel that as long as communication is clear, it doesnt matter what garbled language is used, or do you guys insist on the language being used in the proper way?

as long as i can understand the person without asking them to repeat themselves too many times, im ok with it.
cos it can get extremely embarrassing for BOTH parties when you keep on asking someone to repeat him/herself so many times...

to be honest i prefer standard english over singlish. singlish is just really harsh and grating on the ears. just because i can speak and understand it doesn't mean i have to like it.

even if communication is clear, it still matters because a language as butchered as singlish is just not pleasant. its like having to choose between a neatly typed letter and a large piece of wall with the words spelled out in shit. so u can read both and communication is clear, but so what? u'd prefer the letter anytime Laughing
