Customers browsing through Tang Plaza's basement food market
were greeted by a rather less welcome aroma on Monday - after it
was flooded with sewage.
The entire level, which also houses the shopping mall's
kitchenware department, had to be evacuated when a pipe burst in
the afternoon during renovation work.
But thousands of commuters using the busy Orchard MRT underpass
were still left reeling from the smell of liquid human waste
emanating from the lower floor.
Some were seen by The Straits Times to be visibly recoiling as
they took the escalator down into the underpass. Others gagged,
covered their noses, or simply fanned their faces and
complained.
