Tis strange to clamp down so hard on the downloaders when the source of most unofficial fansubs are derived from capture of free-to-air broadcasts. It's a...

When Odex sent out its first batch of 17 letters, it also posted warnings on anime forums against illegal downloading.

But these were "not taken seriously", Mr Sing said.

Which forum?

And why are they backtracking people for those that had take their warning seriously?

This sentence is not true, anybody want to sent email to sph?

jetabt767400 SG

Sadly, even if there are Odex haters, I am one of them now, its true letters came from them.
One sample from Playpark forums, the person who kenna...
Odex Official Warning Letter
Each anime for SGD$10K in court or SGD$3.5K for out of court settlement, ultimately they are on higher grounds...

Eh... the Odex de settle is harsh harsh de, kept in the dark de...

Lets say both Odex and another company like TV Tokyo catches you in the same thing...

Then you must pay both? Coz both also got the license, both also can make you pay... Rolling Eyes

TNP today with bigger Odex headline, page2-3. Wow they will raid homes if the situation does not improve? Like we are smuggling drugs or something... -.-;

hisoka SG

the isp should at least inform the pple whom they reveal the IPs of.......

or do they mean the court ordered them to give them all the IP list, if so then thats like giving them a blank check Rolling Eyes

Guardx SG

This is the result of the increase in GST !!
We pay them to backstab us.
They got more money to find people to check us out and sue us.
Sad world

Haiz....

Take a look at the list...

http://avpas.com.sg/AVPAS_Authorized.html

but the thing is, some of these are not sold in Singapore or by odex Confused

LazerLordz SG

Correct, since when does ODEX have the right to charge someone for downloading stuff that is not in their charge?

And AVPAS is staffed with ODEX employees, The New Paper failed to spot this glaring issue.

Second point, ODEX does not distribute all the animation that is made in Japan.

American firm eh, apparently they can wriggle out of their native Data Protection Act's jurisdiction I suppose?

MohamedF SG

Now we can onli make big big noise... to prevent getting caught, pls avoid these tittles... and if "ODEX" caught you downloading tittles that is not licenced by "them" and demand money if not will refer you to court, that sounds a lot like Extortion... and Extortion is illegal

LazerLordz SG

Well, that was just some info for anime fans..

I dont watch anime, it's just that the illogical nature of this got me pretty irritated..

Purplehaze623 SG

how the american system works for now (as i know):

-licenced anime cannot be subbed by anyone except those who buy the rights in america

-unlicenced ones are legal to download and watch, but not distribute

-some popular fansubs (e.g. dattebayo) has been bought over by the company which own the rights, and use the fansub for commercial activities.

how the singapore system works for now:

-licenced anime not subbed by singaporean, but owning it and downloading it is illegal?

-unlicenced anime is illegal, even though the authorities in singapore doesn't have the rights to distribute those unlicenced anime in singapore.

hmm...... govt lack flexibility in dealing with internet-related cases.

MohamedF SG

I rarely watch anime these days unless I confirm its a good one that's worth my time... but what super irritates me is the fact that ODEX produce such poor quality of product and service and have the cheek to say "buy our stuff or else"

Why don't they try a better approach like "actually giving their customers what they want"?

LazerLordz SG

This is the flaw of our local system. We're never in the forefront of change, always at the back of the queue, reacting and not creating.

Don't expect things to change anytime soon. Look at how far we've fallen behind Korea and Japan even in the context of mobile broadband coverage and outreach.

allentyb SG

you are just too darn dumb and please you have no idea what is tracing, stop making a fool of yourself, all starhub and singtel ip is under their own proxy server, try and trace that ip in your utorrent is see what kind of result, you get, provided you know how to trace, and furthermore,

SO PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH MORE, MAKING A JOKE OUT OF YOURSELF

DIMWIT, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?????

Xephone_xenon SG

Its pointless to mingle with idiots like them.
