Singapore cracks down on anime piracy

Tis strange to clamp down so hard on the downloaders when the source of most unofficial fansubs are derived from capture of free-to-air broadcasts. It's a...

zanemiller SG

how do they not gain from this? by banning people from downloading, they partly also want people to buy from their company don't they? and i haven't read anything from the net. its my opinion.

edit: and also, if you say that they aren't going for profits, why would they want to care about the downloading of anime anyways?

Xephone_xenon SG

Not everyone is like you.

And i do agree that.
Yes, fansubs does help promote a certain anime which we do not know off.
It make us gain knowledge about that particular series so eventually if we like it, we will support it.
But the biggest problem is. Like 80% of the community does not do that.
Including those bleach and narutards.
See, would you want to go down to a neighbourhood pohkim, spend $10~40 bucks on a 6months old episode.
When you can sit comfortably at home, click here and there, and watch the latest episodes for free.
Which one would you choose? Or rather which one would the entire community choose?

Xephone_xenon SG

By banning people. It would only brew hatred being them and the community. And eventually more people will boycott odex. And their sales would be even worse.

As for the 2nd part. Its TV TOKYO.

Rolling Eyes

i got buy original collection of anime, and furthermore, i have original of Neon Genesis Evangelion, FMA, trinity blood, and many more........ if the series is good, i will buy it

zanemiller SG

where do you go when you are banned from downloading torrents? either hitting the stores (even though reluctantly), or getting the episodes through direct downloads. and if they can track a torrent download, they can packet-sniff and wiretap computers to track down direct downloads. and eventually its either people obtain their anime through masked IP addresses, or buy from odex.

TV tokyo wouldnt have someone to go to if not for the existence of odex.

and take a look at this: http://www.google.com.sg/search?q=piracy+downloads+increases+sales

this debate is getting too stiff. i'd say that odex doesn't have the balls to go against tv tokyo.

Xephone_xenon SG

No, most would just stop. Or stream. They wont buy from odex.
Why the hell would someone buy a episode that is 6months old?
Which they probably already have on their com.

So are you saying just because odex exist. They are to be blamed?

Xephone_xenon SG

Yes. They do not have the balls.
Why the hell would odex go against the company that issue them anime licences.
Without these licence they can sell or distribute anime.
Which makes them useless.

zanemiller SG

yes. how the f is streaming different from downloading? other than being able to distribute it physically by downloading. streaming? distribution? one can easily circumvent the embedded videos in the flash players in video sites and download them. what different is that? and as you mentioned, odex is slow at releases. if they ban people from downloading, they have to buy where they left off in a bunch of cds wouldnt they?

zanemiller SG

"Without these licence they can sell or distribute anime." ?

so if their redundant, isn't existence a problem?

Xephone_xenon SG

Odex is slow in release by 6~12months. And this odex saga has only started for 3 or so.
People only continue to stream as they dont not believe/know that streaming is also illegal and will be caught.
And if you do not believe that this will only decrease they sales more.
I wont borther arguing with you anymore. Its the obvious.
Like 90% of the anime community is hating odex now.

Xephone_xenon SG

Opps sorry typo. I mean CANT Smile

zanemiller SG

i do not hate odex completely. im neutral. as far as im concerned, sing sure kicked up a big fuss over it, which affected odex's reputation, which brought out many odex's haters. fyi my first post only by criticizing stephen sing, not odex.

stephen sing. i cant stand how a ripened adult can act so freaking immaturely and childish on the net. trying to earn some quick bucks by sueing everyone's pants off. DIE BASKET.

Xephone_xenon SG

Okay. I just hope the sgforumnites dont get offended so much.
Its rather irritating when you got to repeat things again and again.

Cheers.

zanemiller SG

neh, singaporeans all very united one. Laughing

LazerLordz SG

I've already said time and time again.

AVPAS is staffed by ODEX employees. This is the clearest sign of a conflict of interest.

It's a method to gain legality in applying for a court injunction.

ceecookie SG

I would like to say that the only 100% way of safety obtaining animes illegally is to head to Johor to buy the pirated vcd/dvd version.

Custom as usual,close one eye

Xephone_xenon SG

Wrong. It is to ask your friends dl and burn for you.
And apparently odex has not say anything about DDL.

ceecookie SG

I dunno why people want to wait for a long time downloading them when u can get them easily and fast in JB.

dumbdumb! SG

i've always liked rurouni kenshin. i bought the vcds.. very lousy quality, some of the disks were scratched and cannot play. Confused

dumbdumb! SG
