Some questions to ask before my TP test

Hi to all,

I will be taking my TP test soon, and need your advice with regards to the following :

1. When moving up the slope, must i signal right before I engage gear 1 and move the car ?

There are some confusion here. Because, my school driving instructor didnt ask me to signal right. But i saw some CDC cars signalling right before they go up the slope. So i ask my instructor, he told me " u want to signal right, can signal, dont want to signal also nvm" But i saw even some private instructor cars signalling right before they move up the slope... can any1 confirm with me must i signal right b4 moving up the slope ? But then again, my instructor brought up a very good point.. " if you want to turn left, signal right for what ???" Can any1 clarify this ?

2. Parallel Parking

Just like to ask how far should the car go forward and how left should the car be placed before i reverse ? I am learning at Ubi btw. There are 2 parallel parking types in ubi - wide one (for test / practice) and the narrow one (mostly for tests but sometimes people practice on it too)

U should check ur blind spot. After clear everything, signal rite and change gear.

no.2 ) it depends on the car actually. U can only judge the distance with the car u are going to use.

you stop on the slope. when you moving off, you should signal right meaning you are moving off.

a side note: vehicles stopping by kerb/ road signals left. moving off signal right. treat the slope like a road, since you are stopping on it.

1. You must always signal before moving off. Since you're moving off the slope, you MUST signal right, check mirrors and blindspot then move off. No such thing as don't want to signal don't signal. Immediately after moving off then you turn off your signal lah! Then signal left if you wana turn left thereafter.

2. That one all depends on ur judgement and the car you're using.

when i pulled handbrake on the slope, i didn't signal before moving off le.

cuz i was on the left, and i only signalled left to show my intention to ruen just before the stop sign at the btm of the slope.

for parallel parking, usually the gauge for most cars would be 1m away from the lot for the width.

for the length can't really rmb, i think its the next lot or sth.

before moving off on the slope, isn’t the correct procedure to signal away from the kerb (depending on which side you are), check mirrors, blind spot then move off?

depending which side of the slope are you on.

if left, signal right, if right signal left. if he ask u turn right, then check blind spot go right, if not turn off signal go straight and turn left.

i tot shld be placing ur car on centre of e lane for reverse parking? as long as e butt of ur car exceed e first pole by a 1m litdat den ok liao.

Its a must to signal right

reason being :

that slope u're stopping then moving off. Thus the rule of Signalling right before moving off.

remember to check blind spot too =)

I think there is no fixed distance from the left. For the same car, the distance can vary and u can still park it properly. Its not the distance I guess. Its about adjusting as you reverse into the slot.

so that means if my car on the left side of the slope, before i move off, i signal right -> check rear mirror -> side mirror-> right blindspot -> clutch in 1st gear ->1/2 clutch + accelerator -> release handbrake and move off ?

and if i am the right side of the slope , before moving off i signal left ???

I dun think it's advisable to go into N gear.

If you check blindspot and rear before shifting gear, I fear you might have to check again, there's like a 3 sec lag

When you stop on the slope, you'll be on first gear. No need to change gear as the instructor will ask you to move off immediately after u manage to get the car stationary.

When he asks you to move off, do your moving off drill first, step on accelerator, release ur clutch gradually till after biting point then disengage handbrake. Step on the accelerator more after that to move the car up the slope or it will roll.

i dunno abt chking rear view mirror. u can't see anything on the slope.

haha but must chk blind spot at the 3 point turn there.. i keena la. i nv chk b4 zooming off. then one car came in suddenly, i should hv given way to him. so minus marks for that. Sad

you hold onto your biting point & accelerator first, feeling the pull from the car. And you do your safety checks including signalling right.

Do not do your safety checks first, follow by moving off. Cause most probably you will be rolling back and be in a state of panic unless you're really experienced.

for | | parking, when you open the door, it should be 2 or 2 1/2 feets away from the kerb.

if you need to ask how much you need to move forward, most probably your instructor haven't been teaching you much. the first step it's the same for vertical parking.
forward till the pole is away from your demister line? and reverse till it meets the demister line and full lock to the "left".
