More trains,
trips to be added to North East Line during peak
hours
SINGAPORE: Starting Monday (Jan 4), more trains and train trips
will added to the North East Line during peak hours, the SBS
Transit announced in a news release on Thursday (Dec 31).
On weekday morning peak hours from 7.30am to 9.30am, 25 trains
will be in service to improve capacity, 2 more than previous
23.
With the addition of two new trains, the average waiting time
will improve, with 60 per cent of train trips arriving at intervals
of 2.5 minutes. They currently arrive at intervals of between 2.5
minutes and 3.2 minutes.
A total of 20 new trips have also been added during those
hours.
On weekday evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, 23 trains will be on
the line, also an increase of two new trains. A total of 14 trips
will be added to the evening peak schedule. It is expected that 40
per cent of evening trips will arrive at intervals of 2.5 minutes,
said the train operator.
“We will continue to monitor travel demand on the North East
Line and will add more trips when required,” said the SBS
Transit.
